This whole argument along the lines of "I just like the music" bugs me. There are so many factors and subtleties to what music is all about that it that the phrase strikes me as good as meaningless.
Well, I understand what people are getting at, but I firmly believe your taste in music is informed by what you know. If you agree to that then it's pretty hard to draw lines about where your "taste" ends and a raft of other associations begin.
I hope that makes sense / encourages some more fun thoughts.
